Dear Wrights Mill Road Families, 

I am excited to share my anticipation for the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year at Wrights Mill Road. As we are preparing to Seas the Year of Learning, I want to make you aware of the FOCUS Act which is a state law restricting the usage of wireless communication devices during the school day in all Alabama public K-12 schools. Please see the details below explaining how this law will impact WMR students. This information will also be included in the WMR student handbook that you will receive at Meet the Teacher or on the first school day. 

Wireless Communication Devices at WMR In accordance with Alabama House Bill 166 (FOCUS Act), all wireless communication devices must be powered off and secured in backpacks or lockers during school hours or while on campus at WMR. Wireless communication devices include, but are not limited to: cell phones, smart watches, wireless earbuds, tablet or laptop computers, gaming devices, pagers, and/or any portable device capable of voice, messaging, or data communication. 

If the devices are used during the school day, the following disciplinary actions will be taken at WMR: 

• 1st Offense: Teacher makes a phone call home and returns device to student at end of the school day 
• 2nd Offense: Student has a conference with an administrator, phone call home, and teacher returns device at the end of the school day 
• 3rd Offense: 2nd offense consequences + deduction of 10 behavior points 
• 4th Offense and Subsequent Offenses: Office referral with ½ day ISS; device returned to student at end of the school day 

Our administration team will work closely with students and teachers as we navigate this transition together. Expectations will be communicated to students clearly by our teachers at the beginning of the year. Thank you for working with us to ensure we are in compliance with the FOCUS act as we strive to provide our EAGLES with the best educational experience.

• August 5: Class rosters will be posted on our front doors at 4:00 p.m. 
• August 6: Meet the Teacher from 1:00-3:00 p.m. 
• August 8: Our first school day 
• Please be sure to download the “Where’s the Bus?”app if needed 
• Please download the ParentSquare app to maximize school communication
